What a night of fights from Montreal!  This event was a lot more exciting than UFC112. My picks weren’t up to par with how I’ve been(picking winners left and right) but a huge upset hurt me. I went 1-2 but had a lot of fun watching these fights in the process so that’s what matters most right? (lol)

Let’s start with Kimbo Slice. I told people Matt “Meathead” Mitrione would win all week..I just thought after his last fight where he KO’d Marcus “Big Baby” Jones that he was in a much better position to win this fight. I ended up going with my heart and picking Kimbo and got burned. Kimbo entered the octagon to the DJ Khaled song “ALL I DO IS WIN”  and sadly, this was far from the truth tonight. He started off OK, actually body slamming meathead twice and fought off a triangle choke attempt. The round was extremely close and could have been scored 10-9 Kimbo Slice. The 2nd Round was a totally different fight. Meathead came out mixing up inside leg kicks and high kicks. The inside leg kicks chopped down Kimbo like a red wood, Timmberrrrrrrrrr……………and down he collapsed and got gator rolled into another submission attempt. Finally, after a minute or two of being trapped on the bottom and getting bombs dropped on him referee Dan Miragolitta correctly stopped the fight and Kimbo’s MMA record is now 4-2. I don’t know who Kimbo fights after this but he needs to keep working hard and improve his cardio and he should bounce back with a win. Matt Mitrione is improving drastically each fight and really is starting to look good. He is now 2-0 and I am very interested to see who Joe Silva (UFC Matchmaker extraordinare) puts him up against next.  Matt Mitrione won via TKO (punches) at 4:24 of Round 2.

UPDATE: Kimbo Slice has been cut from the UFC! “That’s probably Kimbo’s last fight in the UFC,” said Dana White. “Listen Kimbo made it farther than I thought he would.” When asked about the “probably” in his original Kimbo quote, White said definitively that Slice was gone.

The Josh Koscheck/Paul “Semtex” Daley fight is one I have been waiting for since they announced it.  Semtex is one of the most dangerous strikers at 170lbs. in the world and his fights usually end by devastating knock out.  Kos is one of the top wrestlers in MMA and I figured he would utilize his great takedowns and find a way to win this fight. On this one, I was not mistaken.  It wasn’t pretty or real exciting but he did enough to win with the judges.  “Semtex” has simply no answer for the running single leg takedown that worked over and over and over.  This bout was not without controversy though. Early on after Daley escaped from being down against the cage he threw an illegal knee that seemed to strike Kos in the face.  Josh went down in pain and the referee immediately deducted a point.  After showing the replay it NEVER hit Koscheck!!  He seemed to be 100% faking it.  Luckily, the start of the next round referee Dan Miragliotta announced there was NO point deduction.  Now for the worst of it all.  After the bell rung to end the fight as Kos is walking away with his hands raised Paul Daley avoided the ref and punched Josh Koscheck in the face!  The ref immediately grabbed him and wrestled him away and said, “Paul, Paul! Are you KIDDING ME?”  It was just a disgraceful act done out of frustation, and there is NO PLACE IN THE SPORT FOR IT!  Josh Koscheck won via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) and will coach TUF 13 vs Georges St.Pierre and face him for the UFC Welterweight Title.

UPDATE: UFC just announced that Paul Daley has been cut from the organization. That is a huge statement and very swift action.  Paul Daley isn’t some scrub, he is one of the top fighters at 170 IN THE WORLD.  I hope eventually they let him re-join and fight in the UFC again but swift discipline was needed.

The main event was the rematch of Lloto “The Dragon” Machida vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.  Rua won the last fight but didn’t win it with the judges and was robbed of the title.  He left NO DOUBT tonight with who won when he KNOCKED OUT Machida COLD!  After half a round of feeling each other out and not much memorable action, Machida landed a knee to the ribs and then Shogun grazed him with a hard right to the temple dropping him to the mat.  He immediately pounced on him and ground and pounded his way to a victory. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua via KO (punches) at 3:35 of round 1 and is the NEW UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
